8 Ways To Make A Stress-Free Home

Pliny the Elder said, “Home is where the heart is. Hence, it is important to have a tress-free home. Discover LLB came up with 8 simple rules to actualise this concept of a liveable and stress-free home.

Sticking to the basic and things that you actually need or will enhance the look of your room is the most important aspect of having a simple design. Over-decorating a room is the biggest mistake in interior designing, as it will create an unsettling feeling and become an eyesore.

1. KISS Rule (Keep It Simple Silly)

One of the most important aspects of simple design is picking a focal point of the room and accessorising the room with furniture and accents to complement the theme of the room. For example picking the perfect rugs, cushions, photos and artworks. Having the perfect accents will aid in bringing the room into life!

2. Have a clear idea on what you want to achieve
Prior to purchasing any furniture, you should plan the look of your home. You can do this by setting an overall theme for your house, or specific themes for different rooms that will be decorated. By doing so, it will help you in having a clear idea of what you want, thus keeping the consistent look of your home.

If you do not have a theme in mind, you might end up mixing furniture that has different colour combination, which will create an eyesore for those living in the house. The key to an amazing home is consistency. For example, this image of our recent project in South Perth has an amazing view but the apartment might become an eyesore if it is not designed properly. Hence, plan before hand and be consistent in designing your home.

3. Stick with natural colour for bulky furniture
Having a red coloured 3-seater sofa might look appealing in restaurants, cafes or bars. However, it might not be suitable for your home. Why? Harsh, standout colours often contradict the image and concept of having a homey, alluring and warm ambience that a home should emanate. Thus the use of smoother and natural colours is highly recommended for bulky furniture, which often acts as the room’s focal point.

Bear in mind, that you should still give pop of colours to bring the room to life. Accessorising can help in enhancing the look of the room. For example, purchasing patterned cushions, throws, rugs and other accessories.

4. Accentuate your home with colours
The natural colours should take over most of the space, but that does not mean you cannot play with some colours! Consider in adding flashes of colours to spice up the ambience of your room. This is a good idea to accentuate your home because it can easily be changed within season or once you get bored. It will keep the style of your home to be up to date and it will also keep you, as the occupant, refreshed!

You can accentuate your home by choosing the right accents, such as books, flowers, seasonal fruits (to eat and also as a table display!), coloured cushions and many others.

Just remember the second rule– don’t go overboard with bright and glary!

5. Hide those cables
There’s no doubt about it; cables are annoying. If they haven’t got on your nerves yet, they will soon. Always seek professional help in concealing cables safely and keeping interior looking as smooth as possible.

Having cables around the house will create an image of having a cluttered home. Always remember that a well designed home lies on the details, so small items such as cables do count!

6. Clean as you go, clean the clutters
Messy and dirty houses detract from the masterpiece that is your interior. Keep your house clean and your interior will maintain its mojo!

Always remember that your home is where your heart is, and the look of your home best represent who you are as a person. Nothing is more embarrassing than having a spontaneous visit from your family/friend when your home is at a messy state.

7. Personalise your home
To have a liveable and stress-free home, consider in accentuating your home with items that best reflects your personality. Perhaps it’s family photos, favourite band posters, paintings, brands, or any other items that speak YOU. This will give you a sense of serenity and happiness, which then will create a stress-free home.

8. Hire an interior decorator
Sometimes, you just don’t have the time or energy to make it happen. We know the feeling; you have the ideas and the concept but you just can’t seem to articulate it yourself. It is a good idea to hire a professional help and tell your decorators what you have in mind, along with your ideas and budget.

At Discover LLB, we accept all your ideas and we will actualise them for you. Our aim is not only to meet your expectations, but to satisfy our clients by going the extra mile and exceeding their expectations.
