Wildflower Perth

Only able to be accessed by the lift across the lobby, Wildflower is one of the trademark restaurants in the famous Como; The Treasury Hotel. Located on the 4th floor, this brand new roof top glass box addition situated above the existing State Buildings is simply magnificent.

Upon arrival, the wait staff took our jackets before escorting us to the alfresco terrace to enjoy the sunset with a glass of Taittinger while our table was being readied. David Best, Wildflower's Restaurant Manager made an appearance to greet us, as we discussed his outstanding hospitality experiences in top restaurants globally.

The alfresco terrace area is something very special for Perth. Located just across the Supreme Court Gardens, it has direct views over the river and the bell tower with almost no obstruction. It features comfortable couches, paddle stools, fabricated armchairs and pot plants on grey stone tiles.

Once sunset concluded, we informed our waiter that we are ready for the evening, and within minutes, she took us to our table.

Stepping back inside, we were impressed with the grey clouds artworks that runs across the back wall of the restaurant, creating a feeling of being ‘in the sky.’ On top of that, there were actual curtain walls among the backdrop of a stunning view of Perth city, which captures the true feeling of the restaurants location. In terms of colour scheme, Wildflower utilises white-grey, oak wood and green as its accentuated colours.

Wildflower is modern, luxurious, but better yet majestic. There’s a New York vibrancy set in the distinct Parisian culture. While the restaurant is not huge, the curtain walls do maximise the feeling of space in the room. The feeling of ultimate luxury is characterised by the white carrara marble floor, which blends beautifully with other features, such as the grey holes ceiling, artworks, wood panels, green accentuates and of course the Australian floral arrangement from Flowers By Aneura.

Pictured above: Wildflower, its masculine yet accentuates it feminine side too.

The restaurant glass box was built from the ground then delivered up in one piece using a crane, which can be seen from the beams structure within the building. However despite the heavily structured architecture, the room is softened by certain finishes and selection of furniture.

Wildflower is a 90-seat venue spread across its main dining room, bar, alfresco terrace and private dining room. The restaurant serves contemporary European cuisine with an Australian twist, reflected in its Noongar Six Seasons menu, led by our own Perth-born executive chef Jed Gerrard.

I ordered the Arkady lamb; with warrigal greens, black sesame, sheep’s yoghurt and cumin. It came in well-presented way and was simply wonderful. The lamb was tender, pink in colour and outstanding in quality, sourced from a farm house in Margaret River. It definitely earned its title as dish of the evening! My partner in crime had the wild fish cooked in squid ink brioche; which came with potato & garlic cream, crayfish emulsion and coastal greens. Dark in appearance (due to the squid ink), the dish was simply divine, smooth and rich. Our meal was accompanied by a bottle of 2014 Howard Park Mount Barker Riesling, Great Southern.

For dessert, I had the Wildflower Honey; with crispy jersey milk and candled desert lime, which was incredibly delicious. It was fresh, light and refreshing! My partner in crime loves chocolate; and she couldn’t say no to the Bahen & Co chocolate mousse with wattle seed cream and baked banana sorbet. That too was simply divine.

After all, Wildflower is simply a new contender in Perth's fine dining market. Its interior, view, food and service are of the highest quality, while the restaurant's formal, efficient yet laid-back vibe is simply unrivaled.

Wildflower is located on the rooftop of COMO The Treasury in the State Buildings, at the corner of St Georges Terrace and Barrack Street in the heart of Perth. Access is via the hotel entrance on Cathedral Avenue.
